Dylan Dreyer's Suburban Halloween Debut
A New Chapter: From Manhattan to the Suburbs
After years of city living, TODAY meteorologist Dylan Dreyer and her three sons—Calvin, 8, Oliver, 5, and Rusty, 4—have traded Manhattan's skyscrapers for suburban tranquility. The move, which Dylan described as a "love/hate relationship" with the Big Apple, was driven by a need for more space and room for her energetic boys to thrive.
"I was mad everyday with so little space and the boys bothering each other at night: the wild running around but no space to do so," Dylan shared candidly. "The boys definitely need more running room!" This shift from urban chaos to suburban calm marks a significant lifestyle change for the family.
First Suburban Halloween: City Kids Meet Leafy Streets
The Dreyer-Fichera family recently experienced their first Halloween outside New York City, revealing stark differences between urban and suburban celebrations. "At 5:30 they were already tired," Dylan noted, highlighting how suburban festivities kick off earlier than their city counterparts.
The boys embraced the holiday with themed costumes: Calvin suited up as a New England Patriots football player (honoring his Boston-born dad, Brian Fichera), while Oliver and Rusty transformed into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Rusty's Strict Candy Policy
The most memorable moment came post-trick-or-treating when 4-year-old Rusty volunteered to hand out candy at their new suburban home. Though generous, he enforced a strict "one piece per visitor" policy. "He would hand out just one Hershey's Kiss," Dylan recalled with amusement, noting the disappointed reactions of neighborhood kids murmuring, "Aww, man." This adorable quirk perfectly captured the family's adjustment to suburban life.
Dylan's Frankie Valli Transformation
For TODAY's 2025 Halloween Extravaganza, Dylan channeled Frankie Valli, sporting the Four Seasons frontman's iconic slicked-back hairdo. The transformation was so convincing that even Oliver didn't recognize his own mother! "My boys know all these songs," Dylan said. "They're household songs at home." The entire family enjoyed watching her rehearse "Walk Like a Man," blending pop culture with their new suburban traditions.
Embracing the Suburban Life
While Dylan admits to "mixed emotions" about leaving Manhattan, the move appears to be breathing new life into the family's dynamics. The suburban environment offers the boys the space to explore and play freely, while Dylan and Brian can provide a more relaxed upbringing. Their Halloween debut—complete with early bedtimes, costumed heroes, and one-piece candy generosity—symbolizes the fresh start they've embraced.
As they settle into leafy streets and community traditions, the Dreyer-Fichera family is proving that sometimes the best adventures happen just beyond city limits.
